Below is a description of some of the issues that I frequently work with. Please note that this is not a complete list. Many of these issues also appear along side each other. I also understand that sometimes there are no words for how you may be feeling. Please contact me to set up an appointment for a free phone consultation and to understand how we can work together.
I take an eclectic approach to counseling and utilize many different techniques and therapies, to best fit you. Many of my clients benefit from person-center therapy, cognitive behavioral techniques, mindfulness, and strength-based therapy. I am always looking to develop new skills and learn more, in order to be able to best help you.

Anxiety
Do you often feel preoccupied with racing thoughts, increased breathing, the inability to focus on the present? Anxiety can manifest in many different ways. We can work on challenging your anxious thoughts and behaviors and replace them with more realistic thoughts and manageable actions.

Depression
Depression is more than just a bad day. When one feels depressed they often feel like they have lost interest in things that once made them happy. Depression often makes people feel stuck and unable to make changes, despite feeling like they know which steps to take. We can work on creating changes in your life by going at your pace. No step is too small.

Life Transitions
Have there been changes in your life? A move, a new job, a change in your family? Transitions and changes are not always bad, but even when we are happy, adjustment can take time. You may also be having trouble making a decision regarding a transition. Together we can explore your thoughts and emotions regarding the transition and help you feel more at peace with change.

Romantic Relationships
Are you unhappy in your relationship and are having trouble ending the relationship? Maybe you feel like you often pick the wrong partners. Perhaps you’re looking to improve your current relationship, by increasing your communication skills or learning to relate better to one another. I can help you explore your history with relationships and work with you to help you figure out what makes you happy. You can learn skills that will help you be a better partner, express yourself to your partner, and/or learn what you are looking for in future relationships.

Family and Peer Relationships
Family relationships, including family of origin relationships, relationships with extended family, in-laws, and children, are often difficult to navigate. We may love these people, but we don’t always like them. Or we may not love them at all, but need to figure out how to deal with them. Working together, we will explore your childhood as well as the present and learn to set boundaries, have difficult conversations, and work on letting go of the past. Skills such as effective communication and boundaries can also be very helpful in developing and maintaining healthy peer relationships.

Self-Esteem
Low self-esteem is something that can hold us back from moving forward. It can affect the decisions we make, the relationships we develop, and the thoughts that we have about ourselves. We will explore the origin of your self-esteem and work on developing your strengths and values, in order to help you regain your confidence.
